Emissions tests are required in some provinces and states; a licensed shop does the test.

Who does what

We pass your details to a trusted shop or give you its name, as you prefer. Tell us what you notice: the noise, the light on the dash, or the job you want done. Give us the make, model and year, and a phone number for the shop to reach you. Send a request with the car and what it needs. A person replies and arranges it with a trusted shop or recommends one.

Talking to the shop

Ask what warranty the shop gives on its parts and labour. Ask how the shop will contact you if it finds something unexpected. Ask whether the quote includes both parts and labour. Ask for the work to be listed line by line on the invoice.

Good habits for your car

Listen for new noises and mention them to the shop with as much detail as you can. If the car pulls to one side, ask the shop to check the alignment and the tires. Keep the fuel tank above a quarter in winter.
