From request to repair

Tell us what you notice: the noise, the light on the dash, or the job you want done. Give us the make, model and year, and a phone number for the shop to reach you. We do not set the shop's price or promise a date; the shop does, after it sees the car. Tell us when suits you and whether the car can be driven.

Small things that help

Note the mileage when each service is done, so you know when the next is due. Replace wiper blades when they streak; it matters in rain and snow. Wash the underside of the car in winter to clear road salt.

Getting a clear quote

Ask what warranty the shop gives on its parts and labour. Ask whether the estimate includes tax and shop supplies. Ask how long the job should take, so you know how long to rent for. If you want to see the old parts, ask for them back.

Honest about distance
