From request to repair

Mention any warning lights or sounds; it helps the shop prepare. We do not set the shop's price or promise a date; the shop does, after it sees the car. Send a request with the car and what it needs. A person replies and arranges it with a trusted shop or recommends one. Let us know where the car is and whether it is safe to drive.

Before the shop starts

Ask how long the job should take, so you know how long to rent for. Ask whether the estimate includes tax and shop supplies. Ask when the car will be ready and how the shop will tell you. Keep the invoice; it is part of the car's service history.

Good habits for your car

Have the battery tested before winter if it is more than a few years old. Use the grade of fuel your owner's manual calls for. Note the mileage when each service is done, so you know when the next is due.
