How the request works

We tell you plainly when we do not know a shop for the job. Mention any warning lights or sounds; it helps the shop prepare. Give us the make, model and year, and a phone number for the shop to reach you. Your request reaches a person, not a machine.

Talking to the shop

Ask whether anything else is close to needing attention, and how soon. Ask the shop to call you before doing anything not on the estimate. Ask for a written estimate before any work starts. Ask what warranty the shop gives on its parts and labour.

Between shop visits

Have the cabin air filter changed on the maker's schedule. Wash the underside of the car in winter to clear road salt. Use the grade of fuel your owner's manual calls for.
