The steps

You deal with the shop for the repair itself, and with us for the rental. We can suggest a shop that suits the job and your location. If the car cannot be driven, say so, and we arrange the next step with the shop. A person replies within one business day.

Small things that help

Keep the spare, the jack and the wheel lock key where you can find them. Keep a record of every service; it helps the shop and adds value when you sell. Keep an emergency kit in the trunk in winter.

Getting a clear quote

Ask whether the parts are new, rebuilt or used. Ask whether anything else is close to needing attention, and how soon. Ask when the car will be ready and how the shop will tell you. Ask the shop to explain the repair in plain words before you agree.
