Keep a record of every service; it helps the shop and adds value when you sell. Switch to winter tires before the first snow, and back in spring. Keep the fuel tank above a quarter in winter.

Talking to the shop

Ask when the car will be ready and how the shop will tell you. If a warning light was the reason, ask what the code was and what fixed it. Ask how the shop takes payment before you pick the car up. Keep the invoice; it is part of the car's service history.
