Note the mileage when each service is done, so you know when the next is due. Follow the maintenance schedule in your owner's manual, by time or distance. Listen for new noises and mention them to the shop with as much detail as you can.

Ask whether anything else is close to needing attention, and how soon. If the car must stay overnight, ask where it will be kept. Ask whether the shop will check anything related while the car is there. Ask for the work to be listed line by line on the invoice.
