Talking to the shop
Ask whether anything else is close to needing attention, and how soon. If the car must stay overnight, ask where it will be kept. Ask when the car will be ready and how the shop will tell you. Ask whether the quote includes both parts and labour.
Car care, briefly
Look at the tire tread before long trips. Keep the fuel tank above a quarter in winter. Listen for new noises and mention them to the shop with as much detail as you can.
