Buying a car in Scanlon

To be upfront: CarmaCars is a rental company and does not sell cars or arrange loans. Banks and credit unions arrange car loans; CarmaCars does not, but we can rent you a car while you sort one out. We do not check credit for loans or lend money; renting needs a licence, an identity check and a card.

Drive it like you own it

A rental shows you the small things: the seat after an hour, the blind spots, the trunk with your stroller in it. Renting the model you are thinking of buying, for a day or a week, is a real test drive on your own roads. Testing the car for a week shows how it handles your parking, your passengers and your bags.

Before you sign

For a used car, ask for the vehicle's service records and look up its recall history by the VIN. Ask whether the car has been in an accident and how it was repaired. Look for rust under the doors and around the wheel arches. Check the tires and brakes: replacing them adds to the real price.

While you shop

A rental means you never have to rush a purchase because you need wheels. Sold your car already? Rent by the week while you shop for the next one. If the car you want is weeks away, rent one month at a time and stop when it arrives.
