A Safety Standards Certificate is needed in Ontario to register a used car you buy. Drive the car on the roads you use every day, at the times you usually drive. Look at real fuel use for the model, not only the advertised figure. Confirm the ownership and that no money is still owed on the car.
A car meanwhile
Selling privately can take time; a rental means no rush. Weekly and monthly rates make a rental a sensible bridge between cars. If the purchase falls through, you still have a car to drive.
