Check open recalls with Transport Canada or the maker, using the VIN. Read the contract before you sign, and ask about every fee you do not understand. Ask whether the car has been in an accident and how it was repaired. Check the date on the tires and the condition of the brakes.

A rental keeps you driving if your old car sells sooner than planned. You can switch to a different car at the end of a booking, which helps if you are comparing. Between selling and buying, a weekly rental keeps the commute normal.
