Check open recalls with Transport Canada or the maker, using the VIN. A Safety Standards Certificate is needed in Ontario to register a used car you buy. Ask how many owners the car has had and how it was used. Measure your parking spot or garage before you fall for a bigger car.

If the purchase falls through, you still have a car to drive. Use a rental to try a different kind of car before you commit to one. Weekly and monthly rates make a rental a sensible bridge between cars.
