Its 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo drives through an 8-speed automatic. It calls for premium gas, which costs more a litre than regular. All-wheel drive sends power to all four wheels, which helps on snow and wet roads; good tires still matter most.

Rated at 11.4 L/100 km combined, it needs around 34 litres for a 300 km round trip. Expect about $19.95 per 100 km at our price setting.

Rules for renters

An Ontario G2 or G licence and an age of 18 or more: that is where it starts. Under 26, a young driver fee applies for each day of the rental. Bring the card in your name that paid for the booking.

Before pickup, choose how damage to the car is handled: your auto policy (OPCF 27), your credit card's rental benefit, or the CarmaCars Protection Plan. There is a deposit for each rental, taken shortly before pickup rather than at booking. Everyone who will drive signs the agreement after the licence check.
