Reading the spec sheet

Power comes from the 3.5L 6-cylinder, driving through an 8-speed automatic. It runs on regular gas. With front-wheel drive, the weight of the engine sits over the driven wheels, which helps in winter.

For 300 km of mixed driving, expect about 32 litres, from its 10.7 L/100 km rating. In energy, every 100 km costs about $16.59 at our price setting. At US fuel prices, the EPA estimates US$3,050 a year for 15,000 miles.

Size and space

As a minivan, it puts space for people and luggage first.

When the Carnival makes sense

It suits people curious about the model who want to drive it before they buy. It suits a family trip where everyone and everything fits in one car.

Drive it on your own roads

Rent the Carnival for a week and see how it fits your life. Rent the Carnival first, and buy only if it fits your life. Drive the Carnival on your commute before you commit to it.

Running costs

Tires, brakes and batteries are the regular costs to budget for beyond fuel. Get an insurance quote for this exact model before you buy; rates differ a lot between models. Ask what a set of tires costs for this trim; sizes and prices vary.

Picking a year and a trim

Compare the SX with the other trims of the same year before you decide. Look at a few listings of the same year and trim to get a feel for fair prices. Decide what matters most first: fuel use, space, or the price you can pay.
