What to check when buying the 2002 Mercury Sable
- NHTSA lists 3 recall campaigns for this model year. Ask the seller for proof each one was fixed; a dealer can check it by the VIN.
- Owners filed 440 complaints with NHTSA, most often about suspension (268), vehicle speed control (56) and visibility (28). Have those parts checked before you buy.
| Campaign | Date | Component | Summary |
|---|---|---|---|
| 04V106000 | 2004-03-02 | exterior lighting:brake lights:switch | CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES ARE BEING RECALLED TO CORRECT A PROBLEM WITH A MALFUNCTIONING STOP LAMP SWITCH AND/OR ASSOCIATED WIRING. THIS MALFUNCTIONING COULD RENDER THE STOP LAMPS INOPERABLE OR CAUSE THEM TO STAY ON ALL THE TIME. THIS COULD CAUSE CONFUSION TO A FOLLOWING DRIVER, WHICH COULD LEAD TO A CRASH. |
| 03V087000 | 2003-03-10 | visibility:windshield | CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 212, "WINDSHIELD MOUNTING." THE WINDSHIELDS MAY POTENTIALLY EXHIBIT INCREASED WIND NOISE, WATER LEAKAGE, AND SQUEAKS AND RATTLES. |

SIMULTANEOUS APPLICATION OF BOTH THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDALS COULD RESULT IN AN INCREASE IN ENGINE RPM. |

Your Sable and paint work
For the 2002 Mercury Sable, paint work starts with a quote from a person, never a guess. Paint work is matched to the original colour, panel by panel or the whole car.
Size and finish
If something on the car is already damaged, show us in the photos. A car of this size is quick to work on compared with a large SUV. There are 3 NHTSA recall campaigns on file for it; a dealer can check by the VIN.
How to request it
A person reads your request and replies with the next step. If the job turns out larger, we ask you before doing more. You can add a rental to the same request.
Stay on the road
Add a rental to the same request as the work. A rental means the work does not stop your week. Delivery to your door is available across the Toronto area.
How long it takes
Coatings and paint need time to cure, which is part of the schedule. We confirm how long the car will be with us when we confirm the price.
How the price is set
Paint colours with pearl or metallic finishes can take more work to match. Simple jobs cost less; we tell you if a smaller job would do. The same job can take more time on a car with more trim or detail.
Keeping it that way
Look over the work in daylight when you collect the car. Rinse off winter salt regularly to protect paint and wheels.
On the day
Take valuables and personal items out of the car before the work. Ask any question you have before the work starts. If you need a rental, add it to the request so it is ready when you arrive.
When you know your dates
Send photos and a few details, and a person replies with the next step.
