Ask whether anything else is close to needing attention, and how soon. Ask how the shop takes payment before you pick the car up. If you want to see the old parts, ask for them back.

Check that all lights work every few weeks. Do not ignore a warning light; an early check often costs less than a late repair. Keep the spare, the jack and the wheel lock key where you can find them.
