Before the shop starts
Ask how the shop takes payment before you pick the car up. Ask when the car will be ready and how the shop will tell you. Ask how long the job should take, so you know how long to rent for.
Between shop visits
Clear snow off the whole car, roof included, before you drive. Have the battery tested before winter if it is more than a few years old. Note the mileage when each service is done, so you know when the next is due.
