Keep the fuel tank above a quarter in winter. If the car pulls to one side, ask the shop to check the alignment and the tires. Keep a record of every service; it helps the shop and adds value when you sell.

Ask how long the job should take, so you know how long to rent for. Ask the shop to call you before doing anything not on the estimate. Ask what warranty the shop gives on its parts and labour.
