Small things that help
Wash the underside of the car in winter to clear road salt. Clear snow off the whole car, roof included, before you drive. Listen for new noises and mention them to the shop with as much detail as you can.

Ask for the work to be listed line by line on the invoice. Ask whether the shop will check anything related while the car is there. Ask if the shop needs the car for a full day or only a few hours.
