Car financing: the 2021 Nissan Kicks S

We are a rental company, not a dealer, so there is no 2021 Nissan Kicks S for sale by us right now. CarmaCars does not finance cars. Renting is not a loan, so there is no credit check to rent. Here is the 2021 Nissan Kicks S for buyers: fuel use, size, recalls and a test drive that lasts a week.

A buyer's checks

Check whether every recall was done, by the VIN, before you pay. Have a mechanic inspect a used one before you buy it. In Ontario, a used car needs a Safety Standards Certificate to be registered. Ask for the service records and check open recalls by the VIN.

What the specs mean

The engine is the 1.6L 4-cylinder, with front-wheel drive and an automatic (CVT). It runs on regular gas. With front-wheel drive, the weight of the engine sits over the driven wheels, which helps in winter.

Fuel use is rated 7.1 L/100 km combined, so 300 km needs about 21 litres. Expect about $11.01 per 100 km at our price setting. At US fuel prices, the EPA estimates US$2,050 a year for 15,000 miles.

What to expect from the Kicks

Being a mid-size car, it is easy to park and comfortable on longer drives. EPA lists 708 litres of luggage space, enough for bulky luggage, a stroller or sports gear.

Who it is for

It suits a family trip where everyone and everything fits in one car. It suits visitors who want a familiar car for a week in town.

Try before you buy

Rent it, live with it for a week, and decide with real experience. A test week in the Kicks tells you more than any review. Renting first costs a fraction of the price of buying the wrong car.

The cost of driving it

Get an insurance quote for this exact model before you buy; rates differ a lot between models. At our price setting, 100 km costs about $11.01 in fuel. The EPA estimates US$2,050 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles at US prices.

Which one to look for

If two trims share a powertrain, the difference is equipment, which you can check in person. If you are unsure between two options, rent one of them for a week first. Compare the S with the other trims of the same year before you decide.

Ask us

Ask about renting first, and buy with a clear head.
