Have a mechanic inspect a used one before you buy it. Check whether every recall was done, by the VIN, before you pay. Look at the tires, brakes and battery; they are costly to replace. Ask the seller for the service records of this exact car.
Specs, explained
No fuel-use rating is published for this model year, so we leave those figures out.
Who rents the Outback
It suits a family trip where everyone and everything fits in one car. It suits visitors who want a familiar car for a week in town.
How big it is
An SUV body means more headroom and a taller cargo opening than a car of the same length.
Rent it for a week first
Rent first, buy later: a week with the Outback answers the big questions. Try the Outback on your commute, then decide. A test week in the Outback tells you more than any review.
Picking a year and a trim
Within the 2007 lineup, trims share powertrains or differ in equipment; the trim pages show which. A newer year is not always better; check what changed before paying more for it. Look at a few listings of the same year and trim to get a feel for fair prices.
Money matters
Ask what a set of tires costs for this trim; sizes and prices vary. Get an insurance quote for this exact model before you buy; rates differ a lot between models.
