The 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo hybrid with all-wheel drive is the powertrain to look at. It is a plug-in hybrid: it runs on electricity for a short distance, then on gas like a regular hybrid. All-wheel drive helps when pulling away on snow; braking and steering still depend on the tires.

It is rated at 8.8 L/100 km combined; 300 km takes about 26 litres. It can cover about 644 km on electricity before switching to gas. A 300 km round trip costs roughly $40.92 at our price setting.

Space and size

What to bring

Drivers from 18 up, with an Ontario G2 or G licence, are welcome. No maximum age, and a daily fee only for drivers under 26. Bring a card in your name; a card in someone else's name cannot be used.

You need one of three things in place for damage to the car: OPCF 27 on your own policy, a credit card that covers rentals, or the CarmaCars Protection Plan. A deposit is held before each rental; the amount is on the car's page. Every renter goes through the same check of licence and identity before the car is confirmed.
