Engine and fuel

The electric motor is what moves it, with all-wheel drive. It is fully electric: no gas at all, and you return it with the charge it had at pickup. All-wheel drive sends power to all four wheels, which helps on snow and wet roads; good tires still matter most.

Energy use is rated at 15.6 kWh/100 km, about 47 kWh for 300 km. On paper it goes 568 km between charges, less in winter. At our price setting, it costs about $2.34 to drive 100 km.

It suits a weekend away when the train does not reach where you are going. It suits a stretch of weeks between selling one car and buying the next.

Requesting a car

Booking starts online: pick the car, set the times, and send the request at no cost. We send the offer to your account and your email, with the total shown. If you approve, you pay and the car is yours for those dates.

The rates you see on a car's page are the rates in your offer. Weekly pricing starts at 7 days, and a trip never costs more than that rate for a week. We need at least 2 hours of notice before a pickup.

Before pickup

Renters must be at least 18 and hold an Ontario G2 or G licence. There is no maximum age. Drivers under 26 pay a young driver fee each day. Debit works on cars marked "no credit card needed"; the others take a credit card.

Before the keys change hands, one of three options must be in place for the car: OPCF 27, a card benefit, or the CarmaCars Protection Plan. The deposit comes about 1 hour before you get the car, not at booking. Each extra driver is checked the same way and signs the rental agreement.
