What the specs mean

The powertrain to know here is the 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo hybrid, with all-wheel drive. As a hybrid, it does best in stop-and-go traffic, where the electric motor does more of the work. All-wheel drive helps when pulling away on snow; braking and steering still depend on the tires.

A combined rating of 8.3 L/100 km works out to about 25 litres per 300 km. At our price setting, driving 100 km costs about $12.87, and a 300 km weekend about $38.61.

Living with the A4

As a compact car, it has a closed trunk that keeps luggage out of sight. Luggage space is 340 litres, enough for about two large suitcases and a few soft bags.

Rules for renters

Renters must be at least 18 and hold an Ontario G2 or G licence. Drivers below 26 pay a fee each day of the rental, and older drivers pay none. Bring the card in your name that paid for the booking.

Third-party liability comes with every rate. For the car itself: your own policy with OPCF 27, a card that covers rentals, or the CarmaCars Protection Plan. The deposit is separate from the rental price and is returned after the rental. The checks are the same for everyone: licence, identity and the agreement.

What happens when you ask for a car

Requests are free: choose a car, add your dates, and send it. Back comes an offer you can read at your own pace, with every charge on it. An offer is valid for 24 hours, and you pay only when you approve it.

Every car has its own daily, weekend, weekly and monthly rate. A rental of 7 days or longer is priced at the weekly rate. Leave at least 2 hours between your request and the pickup.
