Ask the shop to explain the repair in plain words before you agree. Ask whether anything else is close to needing attention, and how soon. Ask if the shop needs the car for a full day or only a few hours.
Good habits for your car
Look at the tire tread before long trips. If the car pulls to one side, ask the shop to check the alignment and the tires. Keep an emergency kit in the trunk in winter.
