What to ask
Ask the shop to explain the repair in plain words before you agree. If a warning light was the reason, ask what the code was and what fixed it. Ask what warranty the shop gives on its parts and labour.
Small things that help
Switch to winter tires before the first snow, and back in spring. Use the grade of fuel your owner's manual calls for. Replace wiper blades when they streak; it matters in rain and snow.
