Sources: fuel use, MPG, CO2, electric range, battery, charge time, luggage volume and the annual fuel cost are the US EPA's (fueleconomy.gov). Imperial MPG, litres, inches and pounds are converted from those figures. Figures no free source publishes for this car (power, torque, acceleration, top speed, fuel tank, towing) are left out.
From the EPA combined rating at $1.55 a litre (our current Toronto price setting). You return the car with the same fuel it had at pickup, so this is what you pay for the driving.

For a rental car, here is what the 2012 Toyota Matrix brings, and how to request one. You choose the car; a person confirms it and sends the price. Every car has its own page with its rates and calendar.
Its powertrain is the 1.8L 4-cylinder with front-wheel drive. It runs on regular gas. Front-wheel drive is the usual layout for cars this size, predictable in the rain and the snow.
Fuel use is rated 8.2 L/100 km combined, so 300 km needs about 25 litres. Driving 300 km costs roughly $38.13 at our price setting.
As a wagon, it has the length of a car with a bigger load space at the back. The trunk holds 566 litres by the EPA's count: bulky luggage, a stroller or sports gear.
It suits someone whose own car is in the shop for a while. It suits a stretch between cars, by the week or the month.
Tell us your dates and we check this car or the closest match. Similar cars are listed below if you need one now. None in our fleet right now; ask and we look for one for your dates. Your offer shows the delivery fee if you want the car brought to you.
Choose the car and your times, then send a request. A request does not hold the car, and it costs nothing. We review it and reply with an offer that shows the whole price, delivery included when you asked for it. Pay when you approve, not a minute before.
The photos on a car's page are of that car. For longer stays, each booking of up to 365 days renews with a new agreement. Requests for later the same day work when there are at least 2 hours to spare.
Renters must be at least 18 and hold an Ontario G2 or G licence. There is no maximum age. Drivers under 26 pay a young driver fee each day. Cars marked "no credit card needed" accept a debit card in your name; the others need a credit card.
You need one of three things in place for damage to the car: OPCF 27 on your own policy, a credit card that covers rentals, or the CarmaCars Protection Plan. The deposit is taken shortly before pickup, and the balance comes back after the return. Additional drivers can be added; each one meets the same rules and signs the agreement.
Ready? Request the car. If you change your mind before approving the offer, nothing is charged.
