Wash the underside of the car in winter to clear road salt. Replace wiper blades when they streak; it matters in rain and snow. Do not ignore a warning light; an early check often costs less than a late repair.

Ask if the shop needs the car for a full day or only a few hours. Ask how the shop takes payment before you pick the car up. Ask when the car will be ready and how the shop will tell you.
