Keep the invoice; it is part of the car's service history. If the car must stay overnight, ask where it will be kept. Ask how the shop takes payment before you pick the car up.
Small things that help
Keep an emergency kit in the trunk in winter. Have the battery tested before winter if it is more than a few years old. Wash the underside of the car in winter to clear road salt.
