Ask whether the estimate includes tax and shop supplies. Ask what warranty the shop gives on its parts and labour. Ask if the shop needs the car for a full day or only a few hours.
Small things that help
Listen for new noises and mention them to the shop with as much detail as you can. Wash the underside of the car in winter to clear road salt. Keep the fuel tank above a quarter in winter.
