Ask whether the estimate includes tax and shop supplies. Keep the invoice; it is part of the car's service history. Ask whether the parts are new, rebuilt or used. Ask for the work to be listed line by line on the invoice.

Car care, briefly

Keep an emergency kit in the trunk in winter. Wash the underside of the car in winter to clear road salt. Keep the spare, the jack and the wheel lock key where you can find them.
