Thinking of buying the 2018 Audi A4 Progressiv?

We rent cars and sell one only now and then. There is no 2018 Audi A4 Progressiv for sale by us right now. Buying the 2018 Audi A4 Progressiv is a big decision; here is the information we have.

A buyer's checks

A private seller in Ontario must give you a Used Vehicle Information Package. NHTSA lists 4 recall campaigns for this model; ask the seller for proof each one was fixed. Ask for the service records and check open recalls by the VIN. A pre-purchase inspection at a shop you choose is money well spent.

The numbers in plain words

Its powertrain is the 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo with all-wheel drive. The turbo gives a small engine the pull of a bigger one when you need it. All-wheel drive helps when pulling away on snow; braking and steering still depend on the tires.

Rated at 8.6 L/100 km combined, it needs around 26 litres for a 300 km round trip. Every 100 km costs about $15.05 in fuel at our price setting. At US fuel prices, the EPA estimates US$3,050 a year for 15,000 miles.

Size and space

As a compact car, it is easy to drive and park in the city. Its 368 litre trunk is enough for about two large suitcases and a few soft bags.

Is it right for your trip?

It suits anyone who needs a car for a few days, a week or a month without buying one. It suits a stretch between cars, by the week or the month.

Try before you buy

Rent first, buy later: a week with the A4 answers the big questions. Rent it, live with it for a week, and decide with real experience. A week of your own driving tells you more than a test drive: the commute, the parking, the fuel.

Money matters

Premium gas adds to the running cost compared with a car on regular. Get an insurance quote for this exact model before you buy; rates differ a lot between models. Tires, brakes and batteries are the regular costs to budget for beyond fuel.

Which one to look for

If two trims share a powertrain, the difference is equipment, which you can check in person. Look at a few listings of the same year and trim to get a feel for fair prices. Ask the seller which trim it is; badges can be swapped and options vary.
