CarmaCars does not sell cars or arrange loans; we rent cars, which helps when you are deciding. We do not check credit for loans or lend money; renting needs a licence, an identity check and a card. If credit is the obstacle, a monthly rental is one way to have a car while you sort it out; renting is not a loan, so there is no credit check.

Drive it like you own it

Testing the car for a week shows how it handles your parking, your passengers and your bags. A rental lets you judge fuel use for yourself, on your own routes. A week of your own driving tells you more than twenty minutes with a salesperson: the commute, the parking, the fuel.

A buyer's checklist

Ask whether the car has been in an accident and how it was repaired. Make sure every warning light goes out after the car starts. Read the contract before you sign, and ask about every fee you do not understand. Look for rust under the doors and around the wheel arches.

Need a car while a dealer prepares yours? Rent one by the week. If the purchase falls through, you still have a car to drive. Selling privately can take time; a rental means no rush.
