Buying the 2021 Honda Civic EX

We are a rental company, not a dealer, so there is no 2021 Honda Civic EX for sale by us right now. Before you buy the 2021 Honda Civic EX, here is what the figures say and what to look at.

    Recalls and complaints

NHTSA lists 4 recall campaigns for this model; ask the seller for proof each one was fixed. Ask for the service records and check open recalls by the VIN. Check whether every recall was done, by the VIN, before you pay. Look at the tires, brakes and battery; they are costly to replace.

    Specs, explained

It uses the 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo and front-wheel drive. The turbo gives a small engine the pull of a bigger one when you need it. With front-wheel drive, the weight of the engine sits over the driven wheels, which helps in winter.

Plan on about 21 litres per 300 km; the combined rating is 6.9 L/100 km. That works out to about $10.70 per 100 km at our price setting. The EPA estimates US$1,950 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles.

    What the Civic is like

Being a large sedan, it is easy to park and comfortable on longer drives. The EPA lists 736 litres for luggage, roughly bulky luggage, a stroller or sports gear.

    Best uses

It suits someone whose own car is in the shop for a while. It suits people curious about the model who want to drive it before they buy.

Drive it on your own roads

Rent the Civic for a week, or up to 365 days, before you commit to buying one. Renting first costs a fraction of the price of buying the wrong car. Rent the Civic first, and buy only if it fits your life.

    The cost of driving it

A 1,000 km month costs roughly $107 at our price setting. Get an insurance quote for this exact model before you buy; rates differ a lot between models. A pre-purchase inspection is a small cost next to the price of the car.

    Choosing the right one

Compare the EX with the other trims of the same year before you decide. Set a budget that includes tax, licensing, insurance and the first set of tires. Write down the VIN of any car you consider; it unlocks the recall and service history.

    Java and the Civic

CarmaCars is based in Toronto, about 1,072 km from Java, and does not deliver there. If you are starting from Toronto, rent the car here and drive it to Java.
