The 2021 Honda Civic EX for buyers

CarmaCars is a rental company and does not have the 2021 Honda Civic EX for sale right now. Rent one for a week first, or ask us to look for one. Thinking about the 2021 Honda Civic EX? Here are the numbers in plain words and what to check.

Before you sign for the Civic

Look at the tires, brakes and battery; they are costly to replace. NHTSA lists 4 recall campaigns for this model; ask the seller for proof each one was fixed. Ask the seller for the service records of this exact car. A private seller in Ontario must give you a Used Vehicle Information Package.

    The numbers in plain words

The powertrain here is the 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo with front-wheel drive and an automatic (CVT). It runs on regular gas. Front-wheel drive is the usual layout for cars this size, predictable in the rain and the snow.

Plan on about 21 litres per 300 km; the combined rating is 6.9 L/100 km. The fuel for 100 km comes to about $10.70 at our price setting. EPA puts its fuel cost at US$1,950 a year for 15,000 miles at US prices.

    Who it is for

It suits a weekend away when the train does not reach where you are going. It suits a stretch between cars, by the week or the month.

    Living with the Civic

As a large sedan, it has a closed trunk that keeps luggage out of sight. EPA lists 736 litres of luggage space, enough for bulky luggage, a stroller or sports gear.

Drive it on your own roads

Load it with your things and park it where you park; then decide. If it is in our fleet, rent it; if not, a similar car gives you a feel for the class. Try the Civic on your commute, then decide.

    Year and trim

Write down the VIN of any car you consider; it unlocks the recall and service history. Ask the seller which trim it is; badges can be swapped and options vary. Compare the EX with the other trims of the same year before you decide.

    What it costs to run

At our price setting, 100 km costs about $10.70 in fuel. Ask what a set of tires costs for this trim; sizes and prices vary. A pre-purchase inspection is a small cost next to the price of the car.

    The Civic and Knobs

Knobs is about 692 km from Toronto, outside our delivery area. If you are starting from Toronto, rent the car here and drive it to Knobs.

    Over to you

A week with the car can save a costly mistake: request it now.
