The 2021 Honda Civic LX for buyers

No 2021 Honda Civic LX is for sale by CarmaCars at the moment; this page helps you judge the car before you buy one elsewhere. Here is the 2021 Honda Civic LX for buyers: fuel use, size, recalls and a test drive that lasts a week.

    Recalls and complaints

Check whether every recall was done, by the VIN, before you pay. Have a mechanic inspect a used one before you buy it. In Ontario, a used car needs a Safety Standards Certificate to be registered. Look at the tires, brakes and battery; they are costly to replace.

    Reading the spec sheet

Its powertrain is the 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo with front-wheel drive. The turbo gives a small engine the pull of a bigger one when you need it. Front-wheel drive is the usual layout for cars this size, predictable in the rain and the snow.

Fuel use is rated 6.9 L/100 km combined, so 300 km needs about 21 litres. A weekend of 300 km comes to about $32.10 at our price setting. At US fuel prices, the EPA estimates US$1,950 a year for 15,000 miles.

What to expect from the Civic

It is a straightforward car to drive, park and live with. With 736 litres of luggage space by the EPA's measure, it takes bulky luggage, a stroller or sports gear.

    Good uses for the Civic

It suits people curious about the model who want to drive it before they buy. It suits someone whose own car is in the shop for a while.

    A longer test drive

Load it with your things and park it where you park; then decide. Renting first costs a fraction of the price of buying the wrong car. A week of your own driving tells you more than a test drive: the commute, the parking, the fuel.

    Running costs

At our price setting, 100 km costs about $10.70 in fuel. A 1,000 km month costs roughly $107 at our price setting. Get an insurance quote for this exact model before you buy; rates differ a lot between models.

    Narrowing it down

Compare the LX with the other trims of the same year before you decide. Ask the seller which trim it is; badges can be swapped and options vary. Look at a few listings of the same year and trim to get a feel for fair prices.

    Renting for Knobs

We rent from Toronto only. If your trip to Knobs starts in the Toronto area, rent the car here. Knobs is about 692 km from Toronto, outside our delivery area.
