    A buyer's checks

A pre-purchase inspection at a shop you choose is money well spent. Check whether every recall was done, by the VIN, before you pay. Look at the tires, brakes and battery; they are costly to replace. NHTSA lists 4 recall campaigns for this model; ask the seller for proof each one was fixed.

    Under the hood

It uses the 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo and front-wheel drive. It runs on regular gas. Front-wheel drive is the usual layout for cars this size, predictable in the rain and the snow.

Expect about 21 litres for every 300 km, going by its 6.9 L/100 km combined rating. Expect about $10.70 per 100 km at our price setting. EPA puts its fuel cost at US$1,950 a year for 15,000 miles at US prices.

    Inside and out

Being a large sedan, it is easy to park and comfortable on longer drives. In plain terms, its 736 litres of luggage space hold bulky luggage, a stroller or sports gear.

Is it right for your trip?

It suits visitors who want a familiar car for a week in town. It suits anyone who needs a car for a few days, a week or a month without buying one.

    A longer test drive

Try the Civic on your commute, then decide. Rent the Civic first, and buy only if it fits your life. Rent first, buy later: a week with the Civic answers the big questions.

    Money matters

The EPA estimates US$1,950 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles at US prices. At our price setting, 100 km costs about $10.70 in fuel. A 1,000 km month costs roughly $107 at our price setting.

    Which one to look for

If two trims share a powertrain, the difference is equipment, which you can check in person. Look at a few listings of the same year and trim to get a feel for fair prices. Ask the seller which trim it is; badges can be swapped and options vary.

    The Civic and Java

We rent from Toronto only. If your trip to Java starts in the Toronto area, rent the car here. CarmaCars is based in Toronto, about 442 km from Java, and does not deliver there.
