Buying the 2018 Honda Odyssey LX
CarmaCars rents cars and does not sell the 2018 Honda Odyssey LX; this page helps you judge it before you buy one elsewhere. This page helps you judge the 2018 Honda Odyssey LX before you buy one anywhere.
A buyer's checks
Check whether every recall was done, by the VIN, before you pay. Ask the seller for the service records of this exact car. NHTSA has 1,005 owner complaints on file, mostly about forward collision avoidance, electrical system and engine. A pre-purchase inspection at a shop you choose is money well spent.
The numbers in plain words
The 3.5L 6-cylinder, paired with a 10-speed automatic, drives it. It runs on regular gas. Front-wheel drive is the usual layout for cars this size, predictable in the rain and the snow.
By the EPA's combined rating of 10.5 L/100 km, 300 km takes about 32 litres. A 300 km round trip costs roughly $48.84 at our price setting. At US fuel prices, the EPA estimates US$3,050 a year for 15,000 miles.
Space, size and seats
Being a minivan, it carries people and their bags without fuss.
Who the Odyssey suits
It suits a family trip where everyone and everything fits in one car. It suits a weekend away when the train does not reach where you are going.
Drive it on your own roads
Rent first, buy later: a week with the Odyssey answers the big questions. A test week in the Odyssey tells you more than any review. Renting first costs a fraction of the price of buying the wrong car.
What it costs to run
The EPA estimates US$3,050 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles at US prices. Ask what a set of tires costs for this trim; sizes and prices vary. At our price setting, 100 km costs about $16.28 in fuel.
Which one to look for
A newer year is not always better; check what changed before paying more for it. Ask the seller which trim it is; badges can be swapped and options vary. Write down the VIN of any car you consider; it unlocks the recall and service history.
Ready to ask?
Rent it for a week, then decide: send a request with your dates.
