Buying the 2021 Honda Odyssey LX

We are a rental company, not a dealer, so there is no 2021 Honda Odyssey LX for sale by us right now. This page puts the 2021 Honda Odyssey LX in plain words for buyers: what it uses, what to check, and how to try one first.

What to check on the Odyssey

There are 8 NHTSA recall campaigns on file; a dealer can check by the VIN whether each was done. A private seller in Ontario must give you a Used Vehicle Information Package. Look at the tires, brakes and battery; they are costly to replace. Check whether every recall was done, by the VIN, before you pay.

    The figures, translated

The engine is the 3.5L 6-cylinder, with front-wheel drive and a 10-speed automatic. It runs on regular gas. Front-wheel drive is the usual layout for cars this size, predictable in the rain and the snow.

Combined fuel use is 10.5 L/100 km: about 32 litres for 300 km. For 1,000 km, budget about $162.80 at our price setting. At US fuel prices, the EPA estimates US$3,050 a year for 15,000 miles.

    Living with the Odyssey

As a minivan, it puts space for people and luggage first.

    Who rents the Odyssey

It suits a stretch between cars, by the week or the month. It suits a stretch of weeks between selling one car and buying the next.

    A longer test drive

Drive the Odyssey on your commute before you commit to it. Renting first costs a fraction of the price of buying the wrong car. Rent first, buy later: a week with the Odyssey answers the big questions.

    Running costs

Ask what a set of tires costs for this trim; sizes and prices vary. A pre-purchase inspection is a small cost next to the price of the car. The EPA estimates US$3,050 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles at US prices.

    Narrowing it down

If you are unsure between two options, rent one of them for a week first. Decide what matters most first: fuel use, space, or the price you can pay. Write down the VIN of any car you consider; it unlocks the recall and service history.
