Buying the 2021 Hyundai Tucson Ultimate

We rent cars and sell one only now and then. There is no 2021 Hyundai Tucson Ultimate for sale by us right now. Before buying the 2021 Hyundai Tucson Ultimate, read what the figures say and how to try one first.

    Recalls and complaints

In Ontario, a used car needs a Safety Standards Certificate to be registered. Look at the tires, brakes and battery; they are costly to replace. Check whether every recall was done, by the VIN, before you pay. Have a mechanic inspect a used one before you buy it.

    Reading the spec sheet

Under the hood: the 2.0L 4-cylinder and front-wheel drive. It runs on regular gas. With front-wheel drive, the weight of the engine sits over the driven wheels, which helps in winter.

It is rated 9.5 L/100 km combined: about 29 litres every 300 km. For 1,000 km, budget about $147.30 at our price setting. EPA puts its fuel cost at US$2,700 a year for 15,000 miles at US prices.

    A good match for

It suits a work trip where a reliable car matters more than anything else. It suits people curious about the model who want to drive it before they buy.

    The Tucson in everyday use

As a compact SUV, it sits higher than a sedan, which makes getting in and loading easier.

    Try before you buy

Rent the Tucson for a week, or up to 365 days, before you commit to buying one. If it is in our fleet, rent it; if not, a similar car gives you a feel for the class. Rent the Tucson first, and buy only if it fits your life.

    Narrowing it down

If two trims share a powertrain, the difference is equipment, which you can check in person. Set a budget that includes tax, licensing, insurance and the first set of tires. If you are unsure between two options, rent one of them for a week first.

    Running costs

At our price setting, 100 km costs about $14.73 in fuel. The EPA estimates US$2,700 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles at US prices. A 1,000 km month costs roughly $147.30 at our price setting.
