Buying the 2016 Jeep Cherokee North

CarmaCars is a rental company and does not have the 2016 Jeep Cherokee North for sale right now. Rent one for a week first, or ask us to look for one. Thinking about the 2016 Jeep Cherokee North? Here are the numbers in plain words and what to check.

    A buyer's checks

There are 9 NHTSA recall campaigns on file; a dealer can check by the VIN whether each was done. Owners filed 1,411 complaints with NHTSA, most often about power train, engine and unknown or other; have those parts checked. Ask the seller for the service records of this exact car. A private seller in Ontario must give you a Used Vehicle Information Package.

    Engine and fuel

Under the hood: the 2.4L 4-cylinder and front-wheel drive. It runs on regular gas. Front-wheel drive is the usual layout for cars this size, predictable in the rain and the snow.

Plan on about 29 litres per 300 km; the combined rating is 9.6 L/100 km. A 300 km weekend costs about $44.64 in energy at our price setting. The EPA estimates US$2,700 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles.

    Best uses

It suits people curious about the model who want to drive it before they buy. It suits anyone who needs a car for a few days, a week or a month without buying one.

    The Cherokee in everyday use

As a compact SUV, it sits higher than a sedan, which makes getting in and loading easier.

    A longer test drive

If it is in our fleet, rent it; if not, a similar car gives you a feel for the class. Rent the Cherokee for a week, or up to 365 days, before you commit to buying one. A test week in the Cherokee tells you more than any review.

    Choosing the right one

If two trims share a powertrain, the difference is equipment, which you can check in person. Compare the North with the other trims of the same year before you decide. A newer year is not always better; check what changed before paying more for it.

    What it costs to run

The EPA estimates US$2,700 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles at US prices. A pre-purchase inspection is a small cost next to the price of the car. Ask what a set of tires costs for this trim; sizes and prices vary.

    The Cherokee and Java

Java is about 770 km from our Toronto location, beyond the area we deliver to. We rent from Toronto only. If your trip to Java starts in the Toronto area, rent the car here.
