    What the figures tell you

It uses the 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo and front-wheel drive. It runs on regular gas. With front-wheel drive, the weight of the engine sits over the driven wheels, which helps in winter.

Combined fuel use is 9.1 L/100 km: about 27 litres for 300 km. Expect about $14.11 per 100 km at our price setting. At US fuel prices, the EPA estimates US$2,600 a year for 15,000 miles.

    Size and space

An SUV body means more headroom and a taller cargo opening than a car of the same length.

    Good uses for the Cherokee

It suits winter trips and weekends with more gear than people. It suits people curious about the model who want to drive it before they buy.

    A longer test drive

Renting first costs a fraction of the price of buying the wrong car. Rent the Cherokee for a week and see how it fits your life. Rent the Cherokee first, and buy only if it fits your life.

    Running costs

Get an insurance quote for this exact model before you buy; rates differ a lot between models. Tires, brakes and batteries are the regular costs to budget for beyond fuel. A 1,000 km month costs roughly $141.10 at our price setting.

Picking a year and a trim

Look at a few listings of the same year and trim to get a feel for fair prices. Ask the seller which trim it is; badges can be swapped and options vary. A newer year is not always better; check what changed before paying more for it.
