Thinking of buying the 2020 Toyota Corolla SE?

We are a rental company, not a dealer, so there is no 2020 Toyota Corolla SE for sale by us right now. Before you buy the 2020 Toyota Corolla SE, here is what the figures say and what to look at.

Before you sign for the Corolla

Owners filed 314 complaints with NHTSA, most often about engine, unknown or other and power train; have those parts checked. Have a mechanic inspect a used one before you buy it. Look at the tires, brakes and battery; they are costly to replace. In Ontario, a used car needs a Safety Standards Certificate to be registered.

    What the specs mean

The 2.0L 4-cylinder, paired with an automatic (CVT), drives it. It runs on regular gas. Front-wheel drive is the usual layout for cars this size, predictable in the rain and the snow.

It is rated at 6.8 L/100 km combined; 300 km takes about 20 litres. A weekend of 300 km comes to about $31.62 at our price setting. EPA puts its fuel cost at US$1,925 a year for 15,000 miles at US prices.

    Space, size and seats

As a compact car, it has a closed trunk that keeps luggage out of sight. With 510 litres of luggage space by the EPA's measure, it takes a family's bags for a long weekend.

    Who the Corolla suits

It suits commuters, couples and business trips. It suits a stretch of weeks between selling one car and buying the next.

Rent it for a week first

Try the Corolla on your commute, then decide. If the Corolla is in our fleet, its page shows the rates; if not, a similar car helps you judge. Rent the Corolla for a week and see how it fits your life.

    The cost of driving it

A 1,000 km month costs roughly $105.40 at our price setting. Get an insurance quote for this exact model before you buy; rates differ a lot between models. The EPA estimates US$1,925 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles at US prices.

    Year and trim

Write down the VIN of any car you consider; it unlocks the recall and service history. Compare the SE with the other trims of the same year before you decide. Decide what matters most first: fuel use, space, or the price you can pay.
