Thinking of buying the 2021 Toyota Corolla SE?

We are a rental company, not a dealer, so there is no 2021 Toyota Corolla SE for sale by us right now. Before buying the 2021 Toyota Corolla SE, read what the figures say and how to try one first.

Before you sign for the Corolla

Have a mechanic inspect a used one before you buy it. Look at the tires, brakes and battery; they are costly to replace. Ask for the service records and check open recalls by the VIN. Check whether every recall was done, by the VIN, before you pay.

    The figures, translated

Power: the 2.0L 4-cylinder; drive: front-wheel drive. It runs on regular gas. With front-wheel drive, the weight of the engine sits over the driven wheels, which helps in winter.

The combined figure, 6.6 L/100 km, means roughly 20 litres for 300 km. A 300 km round trip costs roughly $30.69 at our price setting. The EPA estimates US$1,900 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles.

    A good match for

It suits a family trip where everyone and everything fits in one car. It suits a stretch between cars, by the week or the month.

    Size and space

As a compact car, it has a closed trunk that keeps luggage out of sight. For luggage, 510 litres means a family's bags for a long weekend.

Rent it for a week first

A week of your own driving tells you more than a test drive: the commute, the parking, the fuel. Load it with your things and park it where you park; then decide. Rent first, buy later: a week with the Corolla answers the big questions.

    Which one to look for

If two trims share a powertrain, the difference is equipment, which you can check in person. If you are unsure between two options, rent one of them for a week first. Ask the seller which trim it is; badges can be swapped and options vary.

    Running costs

A 1,000 km month costs roughly $102.30 at our price setting. Get an insurance quote for this exact model before you buy; rates differ a lot between models. The EPA estimates US$1,900 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles at US prices.

    The Corolla and Arraya
