The 2021 Toyota Corolla SE: before you buy

CarmaCars is a rental company and does not have the 2021 Toyota Corolla SE for sale right now. Rent one for a week first, or ask us to look for one. Before you buy the 2021 Toyota Corolla SE, here is what the figures say and what to look at.

    Recalls and complaints

In Ontario, a used car needs a Safety Standards Certificate to be registered. Have a mechanic inspect a used one before you buy it. Check whether every recall was done, by the VIN, before you pay. Ask for the service records and check open recalls by the VIN.

    Reading the spec sheet

The 2.0L 4-cylinder with front-wheel drive is the powertrain to look at. It runs on regular gas. With front-wheel drive, the weight of the engine sits over the driven wheels, which helps in winter.

For 300 km of mixed driving, expect about 20 litres, from its 6.6 L/100 km rating. In energy, every 100 km costs about $10.23 at our price setting. The EPA estimates US$1,900 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles.

    Who the Corolla suits

It suits anyone who needs a car for a few days, a week or a month without buying one. It suits people curious about the model who want to drive it before they buy.

    The Corolla in everyday use

It is a straightforward car to drive, park and live with. Its 510 litre trunk is enough for a family's bags for a long weekend.

    A longer test drive

Rent it, live with it for a week, and decide with real experience. A week with the Corolla answers more than any brochure. Rent first, buy later: a week with the Corolla answers the big questions.

    Narrowing it down

If you are unsure between two options, rent one of them for a week first. Set a budget that includes tax, licensing, insurance and the first set of tires. Decide what matters most first: fuel use, space, or the price you can pay.

    Running costs

The EPA estimates US$1,900 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles at US prices. A 1,000 km month costs roughly $102.30 at our price setting. At our price setting, 100 km costs about $10.23 in fuel.

    Renting for Java

We rent from Toronto only. If your trip to Java starts in the Toronto area, rent the car here. Java is about 1,639 km from Toronto, outside our delivery area.
