The 2019 Toyota Corolla CE: before you buy

CarmaCars rents cars and does not sell the 2019 Toyota Corolla CE; this page helps you judge it before you buy one elsewhere. We are not a lender and do not arrange loans. A monthly rental can cover the time while you arrange financing with your bank. Here is what to know about the 2019 Toyota Corolla CE before buying one.

Before you sign for the Corolla

Look at the tires, brakes and battery; they are costly to replace. Check whether every recall was done, by the VIN, before you pay. A private seller in Ontario must give you a Used Vehicle Information Package. NHTSA lists 6 recall campaigns for this model; ask the seller for proof each one was fixed.

Under the hood

The 2.0L 4-cylinder, paired with an automatic (CVT), drives it. It runs on regular gas. Front-wheel drive is the usual layout for cars this size, predictable in the rain and the snow.

Combined fuel use is 6.6 L/100 km: about 20 litres for 300 km. Expect about $10.23 per 100 km at our price setting. The EPA estimates US$1,850 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles.

A good match for

It suits a weekend away when the train does not reach where you are going. It suits visitors who want a familiar car for a week in town.

What to expect from the Corolla

As a mid-size car, it is easy to drive and park in the city. Luggage space is rated at 510 litres: a family's bags for a long weekend.

Rent it for a week first

A test week in the Corolla tells you more than any review. Rent the Corolla for a week and see how it fits your life. Rent it, live with it for a week, and decide with real experience.

Narrowing it down

Set a budget that includes tax, licensing, insurance and the first set of tires. If you are unsure between two options, rent one of them for a week first. Decide what matters most first: fuel use, space, or the price you can pay.

Running costs

At our price setting, 100 km costs about $10.23 in fuel. Get an insurance quote for this exact model before you buy; rates differ a lot between models. A 1,000 km month costs roughly $102.30 at our price setting.
