The 2014 BMW i3: Car subscription
If a car by the month is the plan, the 2014 BMW i3 is worth a look; here is why. There is no long contract: stop at the end of any booking. One booking runs up to 365 days and renews with a new agreement.
Engine and fuel
The 0.6L 2-cylinder hybrid, paired with a 1-speed automatic, drives it. It is a plug-in hybrid: it runs on electricity for a short distance, then on gas like a regular hybrid. Rear-wheel drive gives balanced handling; in winter, the tires make the biggest difference.
Plan on about 18 litres per 300 km; the combined rating is 6.0 L/100 km. It can cover about 241 km on electricity before switching to gas. In energy, every 100 km costs about $9.30 at our price setting.
Practical details
Being a small car, it is easy to park and comfortable on longer drives. The EPA measures its luggage space at 425 litres, roughly a family's bags for a long weekend.
Who the i3 suits
It suits commuters, couples and business trips. It suits a work trip where a reliable car matters more than anything else.
Getting one from us
There is no exact match in our fleet today. Request it and we search for one, or take a similar car. Put this car and your dates in a request, and we reply with an offer. Meanwhile, 6 similar cars are listed below. Pick it up from us for free, or have it brought to you.
Before pickup
We rent to drivers aged 18 and up who hold an Ontario G2 or G licence. Each day of the rental carries a young driver fee if a driver is under 26. The name on the card has to match the name on the licence.
Damage to the car is handled one of three ways: OPCF 27 on your policy, a credit card's rental car benefit, or the CarmaCars Protection Plan. A deposit applies to every rental. It is shown on the car's page and taken about 1 hour before pickup. We check your licence and identity before we confirm, the same way for every renter.
The steps
To get started, send a request for the car and dates. You are not charged for it. We reply with an offer for the car and the dates, priced in full. You pay when you approve, and only then.
You can check any car's calendar before you send a request. Trips of 7 days or more use the weekly rate, and shorter trips never cost more than it. A request can be for today, as long as the pickup is at least 2 hours away.
Next step
The quickest way to a price is a request with your dates. It costs nothing.
