Ask whether the shop will check anything related while the car is there. Ask whether the estimate includes tax and shop supplies. If the car must stay overnight, ask where it will be kept.

Have the battery tested before winter if it is more than a few years old. Keep the spare, the jack and the wheel lock key where you can find them. Look at the tire tread before long trips.
