Specs, explained

Its powertrain is the 5.7L 8-cylinder with rear-wheel drive. It runs on regular gas. Rear-wheel drive gives balanced handling; in winter, the tires make the biggest difference.

A combined rating of 13.6 L/100 km works out to about 41 litres per 300 km. That works out to about $21.08 per 100 km at our price setting.

When the 1500 makes sense

It suits a weekend away when the train does not reach where you are going. It suits visitors who want a familiar car for a week in town.

What the 1500 is like

As a pickup truck, it has an open bed for things that would never fit in a trunk.

Rules for renters

Drivers 18 and older can rent with a valid Ontario G2 or G licence. There is no upper age limit, and drivers under 26 pay a fee for each day. Bring the card in your name that paid for the booking.

Three options cover damage to the car: OPCF 27 on your auto policy, a credit card with rental car benefits, or the CarmaCars Protection Plan. There is a deposit for each rental, taken shortly before pickup rather than at booking. We confirm each driver's licence and identity the same way.

The booking steps

Pick the car and the dates that suit you, then send a request. There is no payment at that point. Then we send an offer. The offer shows the price before 13% HST and the deposit. You pay only once you approve the offer.

Each car shows its rate for a day, a weekend day, a week and a month. From 7 days, the weekly rate takes over. A request can be for today, as long as the pickup is at least 2 hours away.
