The figures, translated
Power comes from the 1.4L 4-cylinder hybrid, driving through an automatic (CVT). It is a plug-in hybrid: it runs on electricity for a short distance, then on gas like a regular hybrid. With front-wheel drive, the weight of the engine sits over the driven wheels, which helps in winter.
Plan on about 19 litres per 300 km; the combined rating is 6.4 L/100 km. On electricity alone it is rated for about 612 km before the gas engine takes over. At our price setting, driving 100 km costs about $9.92, and a 300 km weekend about $29.76.
Who rents the Volt
It suits short daily drives on electricity with gas for longer trips. It suits a weekend away when the train does not reach where you are going.
Inside and out
As a compact car, it has a closed trunk that keeps luggage out of sight. For luggage, 510 litres means a family's bags for a long weekend.
Getting one from us
A request for your dates gets you an offer from a person. We have none on the site right now. Send a request for this exact car and we look for one for your dates. Meanwhile, 6 similar cars are listed below. The car can come to your door in the Toronto area, or you pick it up at no charge.
How booking works
Every booking starts as a request: the car, the dates and where you want it. Nothing is charged to send one. Back comes an offer you can read at your own pace, with every charge on it. If the offer works for you, approve and pay to confirm. If not, you owe nothing.
Each car's calendar shows the days it is already booked. A booking can be a single day or up to 365 days. Same-day requests are fine with at least 2 hours of notice, when the car is free.
Licence, age and card
An Ontario G2 or G licence and an age of 18 or more are the starting point. Drivers under 26 pay a young driver fee for each day, shown on each car's page. At the handover we check your licence and the card in your name.
You need one of three things in place for damage to the car: OPCF 27 on your own policy, a credit card that covers rentals, or the CarmaCars Protection Plan. The deposit is taken about 1 hour before pickup, never when you book. Every renter goes through the same check of licence and identity before the car is confirmed.
